If youre looking for an open book, look no further
Dequantify, qualify.

What do I mean by this? I mean get the notion out of your head that everything is about neat little numbers. Hrm? How many friends do you have? We’ll I have 100’s of friends? Oh really, do ya? That’s really convenient for ya, hundreds of friends. I hope you have some great times with all those friends. Really though, hundreds of friends? That makes you seem what “cool, popular” or however they want to categorize you these days. Now tell me, describe your relationship with all these friends. Well.. I don’t really know them all that well… Exactly. That’s a problem. You know of so many people not you KNOW so many people, huge difference. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with just being friendly and acquaintances with people but we as humans need meaningful human interactions with each other. I’d rather have a few GOOD friends rather than many “friends”

Same thing happens in the educational field. What is your GPA? Really.. you want to dull me down to what my GPA is? Because GPA clearly equates to how smart someone is, right? Don’t worry.. I used to buy in to this train of thought too then I started to deconstruct it. Really what does you’re GPA reflect? We’ll lets see.. how well you can study what is put in font of you and then later recall it on a test. What does this have to do with anything, really? Can’t you learn more than just what’s on the test? Yes, and often you do but what if you learn everything that’s not on a test and go in to the test and fail because you studied the wrong material? Then you’re not smart, although you’ve learned just as much as everyone else. What a clever little game education is, isn’t it?

How much money do you have? How much do you make a year? Once again, quantifiable terms. How often do you hear someone say “How much fun do you have at your job/ How much do you enjoy your job” … well I don’t recall ever hearing it. People want to classify themselves in monetary terms for ease, but all that does is degrade them down to a quantifiable term. You are no long John Smith, you are now $100,000 a year supervisor, stripped of what it is to be your unique person, John Smith.

Be a little more concerned with the quality of your life, rather than quantity. You might enjoy it just a little bit more.
